Here, we love pilates. If your pilates group doesn't consist of a mom, two girls your age, and two elderly ladies somehow stretching better than everyone else in the room combined, you are not attending a real pilates class.

Pilates classes are all about shaking and suffering like the strong woman you are. You can romanticize your morning routine and pretend your reformer class spiritually heals you, but you still have to finish that abs set anyway. So gather your strength, girl, you'll be in your instructor's hands for the next 40 minutes.

The social aspect is part of the experience too. It is fun to gossip between exercises, don't you think? That is also part of the charm of a pilates class. If there is no gossip, then it is not a real class. I can't start stretching if nobody spills a little tea before the class starts or during the warm-up.

We need to catch up on everyone's lives while trying to hold painful positions. If not, the pain would feel unsustainable. Imagine squeezing a giant ball between your legs and remaining completely silent. That would be so boring. We need dramatic life updates while suffering through a set of exercises, so we don't notice how long we have been holding a ball with our legs. And honestly, if we are not stretching while hearing relationship updates or workplace drama, then what would be the point of attending class anyway?
